Center of gravity culturally

We tend to be like those with whom we are in proximity.  There are certain attitudes, interests, perspectives, etc. which form the core of any culture.  We will be drawn toward those core viewpoints and will have to be able to break free of the "gravitational pull" to be able to think for ourselves.
